Braid

Braid

by Pierre Sotér

selected by Anna Tegner

BRAID is a book of poetry selected by Anna Tegner from the trilogy of Poems & Thoughts by Pierre Sotér.

“Braided here are the dreams, emotions, wishes and hopes that Pierre Sotér has so wonderfully and skilfully expressed with sensible and powerful words. BRAID includes some of the best lines from a trilogy of poems and thoughts: the mystical worlds from DAWN intertwined with the fire of EMOTIONS and the sharp messages from IT MAY BE BETTER . . . The following pages are about choices and consequences, evolving from essence and savouring existence, living and loving. And they are about fear and fire, desires and dreams, time and eternity, and so much more. This is a wholehearted and sincere journey, which leads the reader into forgotten worlds and to experience this world anew.” (from the foreword by Anna Tegner)

Precious pearls of rain:
down through the misty shades of Dawn they came
to keep us fresh and wet, grow our grain;
pouring down and running went
the precious pearls of rain.
The air was clean, pure the scent;
sometimes the Sun got vain,
splitting light into colours
through the pearls of rain.

A soft rolling, fading rumble,
brushing the silence,
echoed the splashing drops on naked rocks,
on the bushes’ cap, on stretching boughs,
and praised the weather vows.

Nature was feeling right, was doing well,
and did impart to our hearts – to our enchanted brain –
the power, delicate, of rushing pearls of rain,
which cleansed mountains and valleys
and nature’s allure inflamed.

The rules of paradise had been fulfilled,
and the shrills of birds were happy thrills
for the souls of small and larger creatures,
and for the better Gods tokens of pride and skills.
Pastures started to wake, and to stretch the twigs,
flowers and bees to dance, growing the figs,
and fitful breezes gently shook the green new leaves.
The best of possible worlds seemed to exist,
superbly done, finely tuned to life, life to the Sun.

The world looked right in all its tones:
from pearls of rain to waterfalls;
from moving sands and rolling cobbles
to bedding stones.
Stones we transport in our teeth and bones,
dissolve in blood
and spread above with our souls;
stones as soft as life
and stones just plain,
on which can splash
the fresh free falling rain.

And all Gods, and the ones that will exist,
of stone and dew they might be made:
of precious stones . . . of pearls of rain.

Sometimes I dream that I can fly
all by myself in my own sky.
I do!
And I see what I’d never guessed,
what gods and crowns never expressed,
nor sounds, nor colours, any notions,
for all is there made of emotions.

Sometimes I dream that fly I can:
a flying saucer, a frying pan,
a shoe,
so light that I can even pass,
faster than anything on grass,
through ages gone, the coming season,
oceans of stone and seas of reason.

Sometimes I dream that I will fly
above those that did never try,
who fled,
and keep spoiling the sky with noise
where only silence shall have voice,
who cannot see how is so great
this universe’s side and state.

Sometimes I dream that I did fly
not needing wings, just floating by,
across
my empty room: from side to side,
lost narrow streets and passions wide.
Sometimes I dream, others I fly;
more often to myself I lie.
